Our Involvement volunteers travel round to sites in the Trust in numerous roles ranging from feeding patients to taking part in interviews. One popular request from in-patient areas is for entertainment on the wards. Many patients have told us it makes them feel better when singing or listening to music. Here is one account of where our volunteers give their time to cheer up the day of patients on the wards.
In July The Rosewood Rockers ,Alan and Eric gave a performance of sing-a-long with the ladies at the Diamond Resource Centre in Rampton Hospital.
There was an enthusiastic response all round from the patients who joined in with the singing. “You are my sunshine” “Country Roads” and ” With a little help from my friends” were all popular.
One of the Ladies gave a solo performance of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” which was very well received as she has a beautiful voice.
One of the patients commented, “ I don’t come out of my room very much but today I have really enjoyed the music”
Hopefully there will be more musical afternoons soon!

Changing Lives, Services & Culture means a great deal to me. This kind of Involvement helps with my own confidence and has led to other opportunities within Involvement and at The Rosewood Centre. This includes recovery events, interviewing, strategy meetings and more. Being part of a community is just fantastic. The Rockers and Rosewood Involvement Centre is a great part of my life.
I have for the last month or two, as a member of the Rosewood Rockers, been entertaining patients at Millbrook & Bassetlaw Hospitals. I must say that at both hospitals we have been given a great reception by the nursing staff.
The welcome we received quelled all my concerns that the songs we had chosen to sing would be enjoyed; indeed, I was delighted to find that just by walking into the room we were an instant hit!
The audience showing their appreciation to the music by smiling, singing along, moving to the rhythm & clapping. It appeared this made their afternoon and gave them a terrific lift.To see the reaction was fantastic
I’m a volunteer and service user at Rosewood Involvement Centre in Ollerton.
I like to meet & greet new people into the centre, with tea in hand and a welcoming smile.
I joined Rosewood about a year ago and quickly settled into helping out in the centre. I particularly like helping to set up the meeting room ready for visiting speakers, so if they need the projector I set this up for them.
I also like to help with the hospitality – helping with the buffet, getting drinks etc…
I like to keep things in order and this is the same in the Rosewood building. So I ensure that the different rooms are clean & tidy and everything is put in its right place so the building and the use there of is safe.
Recently we have formed a new band from the regular music group here at Rosewood – our band is called ‘Rosewood Rockers’.
As a group we have “toured” both old peoples ward and mental health wards within the trust.
We were also privileged to be able to perform in Rampton.
